Making homemade applesauce is easy! Recently the grocery store had apples on sale so I stocked up to make some homemade applesauce. My daughter likes sugar free foods so I used Motts apple juice to sweeten. The apple juice also keeps the apples from burning while you are cooking them.
I used two difference kinds of apples-Golden Delicious and Gala. I picked them because they are sweet apples and I wasn’t adding any sugar. I peeled the apples first and soaked them in water sprinkled with Fruit Fresh so they wouldn’t turn brown.
Having them all peeled, I drained the water and set them on the stove to begin cooking. I added the apple juice. I didn’t measure the amount but I just poured in enough so I was sure the apples wouldn’t burn while cooking down but not so much that it would be too much liquid and the sauce too thin. Mash the apples down with a potato masher to the desired consistency while cooking.
This is what it looked like when it was finished cooking. I had the opportunity to try out my new cast iron cooker. It’s a beautiful cooker and wonderful to use just because it’s pretty! It’s by Food Network and I got it at Kohls when it was on sale and I had a coupon. Don’t buy it unless it’s on sale as it’s expensive. It is a great quality piece that will last a long time though. It weighs a ton. I almost didn’t buy it because it’s so heavy but the beauty of it won me over!
I added a little cinnamon and then ladled it into some containers.
