Les herbs

Spring.  It’s finally here!  Today I am working on some French herb signs for your farmhouse or garden. I have had these old slate roof tiles in my garage for three years now- just waiting for the right inspiration.  Yesterday it was raining all day so it was a good time to do some projects indoors.

IMG_1598_2Spring’s arrival is a little late this year.  I have lived in Virginia for 25 years now and usually by the third week in April, everything is completely leafed out.  It’s April 30th and we still have leaves just popping from the buds on some trees.  It’s just been really cold.  My rosemary plants completely died this winter so I will be planting more as soon as this rain stops.

I like to use fresh basil on homemade pizzas on the grill with thinly sliced fresh tomatoes and lots of mozzarella cheese.

Lavender is used for handmade sachets and dried bouquets.

I have a galvanized  tub filled with mints–chocolate, peppermint and spearmint.  They are in a tub to control their enthusiastic growth.

I love theses herbs signs  for their farmhouse simplicity, the neutral slate gray and soft white color of the text.

The  garden beckons me to enter through the gate, to prepare the soil,  sow seeds,  experience growth, enjoy the refreshing rains and reap the abundant produce from hard work.  It’s spring and time to begin again!
